Cornell Golf Adds Mike May To Roster For 2016-17 Season

Mike May

ITHACA, N.Y. — Golf head coach Matt Baughan has announced that freshman Mike May will join the team for the 2016-17 season. May will continue to strengthen a Big Red squad that recorded its best finish at the Ivy League championship since 2005.

May was the medalist in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Section III championship in both 2015 and 2016. He competed on the Section III squad in 2014, 2015 and 2016 at the NYSPHSAA championship event, which is hosted annually by Cornell’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. May was a four-time All-Central New York Counties League first team selection in his final four of his six years competing on the Auburn HS varsity squad. He also had a pair of top-five and two more top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association events in 2015.

May joins a Cornell squad that finished fourth in the Ivy League Championships last season, marking just the fourth time in the 42-year history of the event that the Big Red has finished in the top half of the field. Senior Luke Graboyes is the defending champion of the event, with his medalist honors earning him a trip to the NCAA Regionals. Junior Mike Graboyes also won a pair of tournaments last year and earned All-Ivy League second-team honors for a second straight year.

Cornell will determine its final roster over the coming weeks in advance of its season debut Sept. 3-4 at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational, hosted by Colgate at Seven Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton.
